March 20, 2020

Dear Parents,

Governor Doug Ducey announced an extension of school closures across Arizona until April 10, 2020. You can read the full announcement here.

All school related activities and sports will be canceled through April 10th.

By now you should have received contact from your child’s principal outlining specific plans to address learning opportunities for next week. Our staff is actively making plans to adjust academic delivery for a longer closure. You can expect further communication about those plans next week.

A survey is being sent out this afternoon to help us determine if you need any assistance with devices or internet connectivity or if your children require breakfast/lunch meals from school.

Our district is not currently eligible to serve meals during school closures due to not meeting the minimum requirement for students who qualify for Free/Reduced Lunch services. We have asked the Arizona Department of Education for a waiver that will allow us to serve breakfast and lunch during the school closure. We will let you know the plans to distribute breakfasts and lunches if the waiver is granted.

In the meantime, if you need assistance with food for your children, you can contact Heather Stough at: stoughh@vailschooldistrict.org or the ReSources Food Bank here.

We are waiting to make any decisions about all school related activities beyond April 10th, including graduations. The nature of the way COVID-19 is spreading and the subsequent response is too uncertain for us to make concrete decisions about future events at this time.

What truly sets Vail apart is our connections to our community and our commitment to serve one another. As Margaret Mead said, “Helping someone through difficulty is where civilization begins.”

It is encouraging to see so much kindness and caring across our community. That is what makes Vail such a special place to live and raise our children.
